Nene Sugisaki was born on May 8, 1998, in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan.
Unlike many Sakura Gakuin graduates whose childhood ambitions were already focused entirely on acting, singing or modeling, Nene's later life would follow a very different path. Entertainment became an important part of her childhood and adolescence, but she consistently spoke about a second dream that existed outside show business: becoming a nurse like her mother.
That distinction is essential to understanding her biography. Nene's withdrawal from the entertainment industry after Sakura Gakuin was not the result of a failed career or disappearance from public life without explanation. She had already identified nursing as a serious long-term goal while she was still an active idol, and after graduation she intentionally chose education and a medical career over continuing as a professional entertainer.
Her connection with Amuse and children's entertainment began years before Sakura Gakuin.
Historical records of the 2007 Ciao Girl Audition identify Nene as one of the recipients of the Smile Award. The same audition year also included future Sakura Gakuin members Moa Kikuchi and Marina Horiuchi. The original official Ciao pages from that period are difficult to access today, so the 2007 award is best treated as an archival career fact supported by preserved histories of the Ciao Girl program rather than by a currently accessible primary page.
The Ciao Girl environment brought Nene into Amuse's child-talent system and led to additional children's modeling and promotional work.
By 2009, she had become involved in one of the projects that would later be absorbed directly into Sakura Gakuin: Mini-Pati.
Historical accounts trace Mini-Pati's creation to a food-education promotional project connected with Amuse and the Japanese food-awareness campaign FOOD ACTION NIPPON. The original trio consisted of Nene Sugisaki, Raura Iida and Marina Horiuchi.
The surviving official Sakura Gakuin archive lists Nene, Raura and Marina as the first-generation Mini-Pati lineup for 2010–2011. Historical reporting places the trio's pre-Sakura activity beginning around 2009. This distinction is useful because Mini-Pati was not simply invented after Sakura Gakuin opened; the original three girls already had a performance identity together before the club-unit system became formalized inside the school concept.
Nene's association with food became one of the recurring characteristics of her Sakura Gakuin persona. Mini-Pati's cooking theme suited a performer who was frequently portrayed as enthusiastic about eating and food, and the unit gave her early experience performing in a small three-member group.
In April 2010, Sakura Gakuin was officially formed.
Nene became one of the original eight members alongside: Ayami Muto, Ayaka Miyoshi, Airi Matsui, Suzuka Nakamoto, Marina Horiuchi, Raura Iida, and Hinata Sato.
The group was created by Amuse around the concept of a fictional school whose members could participate only during their school-age "growth period." Members would eventually graduate after completing junior high school, making graduation and succession central parts of the group's identity.
Sakura Gakuin's first public stage took place at TOKYO IDOL FESTIVAL on August 7, 2010.
Nene was part of the group from the very beginning and remained for four complete school years, making her one of the members who experienced Sakura Gakuin's transformation from a new Amuse youth project into a group with established traditions, annual transfers, student leadership positions and a growing network of extracurricular club units.
The original Mini-Pati was incorporated into Sakura Gakuin as the Cooking Club.
The official Sakura Gakuin club archive identifies Nene, Raura and Marina as the first generation of the unit. Songs associated with Mini-Pati across its history include "Happy Birthday," "Princess☆a la mode," "Yokubari Fille" and later material performed by successor generations.
In July 2011, Nene, Raura and Marina handed Mini-Pati over to a new generation consisting of Moa Kikuchi, Yui Mizuno and Hana Taguchi.
This transfer was significant within Sakura Gakuin history. Rather than treating each club as permanently tied to its original members, the group demonstrated that club identities could be inherited by younger students. That concept would later allow multiple Sakura Gakuin subunits to survive changes in membership.
Nene also became an original member of the Baton Club Twinklestars.
The official Sakura Gakuin archive lists her among the historical members who participated from 2010 through graduation in 2014. Twinklestars' first pre-debut single, "Dear Mr.Socrates," was released at Sakura Gakuin Festival 2010 on November 28.
The unit's repertoire also included: "Please! Please! Please!," "Rapikamu," and "Tenshi to Akuma."
Twinklestars required synchronized baton-based choreography, giving Nene another performance style completely different from the cooking-themed Mini-Pati concept.
A third unit became particularly associated with Nene and two of her closest classmates.
Together with Marina Horiuchi and Raura Iida, she formed the original Homecoming Club sleepiece.
The official Sakura Gakuin archive records Nene, Raura and Marina as the 2010–2014 historical members of sleepiece.
The unit performed deliberately nostalgic and comedic songs such as: "Medaka no Kyodai," "Suimin Busoku," "Hashire Shoujikimono," and "Ningen tte Ii na."
sleepiece developed an intentionally relaxed visual identity involving pajamas and playful staging. For Nene, the unit offered a place where her humor and strong personality could be emphasized more openly than in the main Sakura Gakuin choreography.
Across these early years, Nene became known among fans for a spontaneous, talkative and often unpredictable personality.
Her nickname "Nene-don" became widely used, and her Sakura Gakuin diary entries often displayed a distinctive comedic style. One recurring creation was "Nene Ningen," a simple illustrated character that later became unexpectedly important to her post-graduation connection with Sakura Gakuin.
Her catchphrase and personal motto, commonly remembered as "Peace is best, smiles are best" — 平和が一番、笑顔が一番 — also became strongly associated with her image.
Nene's Sakura Gakuin role expanded again in August 2012.
At TOKYO IDOL FESTIVAL 2012, Sakura Gakuin announced a new extracurricular unit: the Tennis Club Pastel Wind.
The original lineup was: Nene Sugisaki, Marina Horiuchi, Hana Taguchi, and Yunano Notsu.
The official announcement specifically identified Nene as the club's leader.
This made Pastel Wind an important part of her individual Sakura Gakuin history. Although she was not Student Council President, she had already been given responsibility for guiding one of the group's main extracurricular units.
Pastel Wind's repertoire included: "Scoreboard ni Love ga Aru" and "Yosou Ijou no Smash."
The group combined tennis imagery with energetic pop performance and continued into the 2013 school year with a revised lineup.
By this stage, Nene had become involved in an unusually broad range of Sakura Gakuin club activities: Mini-Pati, Twinklestars, sleepiece, and Pastel Wind.
Few members of the group participated in as many different early subunit identities.
During the 2012 school year, Suzuka Nakamoto served as Student Council President. Nene was part of the middle-school second-year class and therefore approaching her own final year.
The 2012 album Sakura Gakuin 2012 Nendo ~My Generation~, released on March 13, 2013, included sleepiece's "Suimin Busoku" and Pastel Wind's "Scoreboard ni Love ga Aru," preserving two of Nene's club activities on the same school-year album.
When Suzuka graduated in March 2013, Sakura Gakuin entered another leadership transition.
At the 2013 Transfer Ceremony on May 5, Marina Horiuchi became Student Council President, Raura Iida became Performance Chairperson, Hinata Sato became Mood Chairperson and Nene became the group's first Talk Chairperson.
The Talk Chairperson position was a natural fit for someone whose personality had become so strongly associated with spontaneous conversation, humor and audience interaction.
The official Sakura Gakuin graduates archive continues to identify Nene specifically as the 2013 school-year Talk Chairperson.
Nene therefore belongs to the first generation of the specialized Student Council positions that later became a defining feature of Sakura Gakuin. Rather than limiting leadership to a president and vice president, the group increasingly created roles designed around the strengths of individual members.
Her final school year gave the four graduating founding members — Marina, Raura, Nene and Hinata — a particularly strong collective identity.
The February 2014 single "Jump Up ~Chiisana Yuuki~" included "Day Dream Believer" performed specifically by the four third-year middle-school members. Another version included "Capsule Scope," also credited to the same graduating class.
The 2013 school-year album Sakura Gakuin 2013 Nendo ~Kizuna~, released on March 12, 2014, included "FRIENDS ~Unplugged 2013~" performed by Marina, Raura, Nene and Hinata.
The album and graduation period emphasized that the four had entered Sakura Gakuin together at its creation and were now leaving together after four years.
Nene's final Sakura Gakuin months were also notable because she spoke openly about her future.
On March 30, 2014, she graduated from Sakura Gakuin alongside Marina Horiuchi, Raura Iida and Hinata Sato at The Road to Graduation 2013 ~Sakura Gakuin 2013 Nendo Graduation~ at Shibuya Public Hall.
The four represented the final remaining members of Sakura Gakuin's original eight-person founding lineup.
A week later, on April 6, the four graduates appeared together at an event for their official graduation photobook.
During the press conference, the members were asked what they wanted to do after graduation.
Raura said she wanted to become an actress. Marina said she wanted to become a voice-actor artist. Hinata said she wanted to become an actress capable of playing many different roles.
Nene gave a completely different answer.
She said her dream was to become a nurse and that her role model was her mother, who worked as a nurse.
This statement is one of the most important primary sources for understanding her post-Sakura life.
Nene did not describe nursing as a vague possibility. She presented it publicly as the future she intended to pursue immediately after leaving the group.
She also described Sakura Gakuin at the event as a uniquely special place, saying that she felt there was nowhere else in the world quite like it.
After graduation, Nene stepped away from professional entertainment.
Unlike Marina, Raura and Hinata, she did not continue with acting, music or voice work. She also ceased being promoted as an active Amuse entertainer and became a private citizen.

The appearance demonstrated that Nene remained in contact with Sakura Gakuin members and staff years after her graduation.
Hinata Sato publicly reacted to the message, referring to the shared progress of the 2013 graduates toward their respective dreams. The exchange suggested that Nene was continuing steadily along the nursing path she had announced in 2014.
In January 2019, another public message from Nene reached Sakura Gakuin fans through Raura Iida.
Raura posted a message from Nene celebrating the fact that all four members of the 2013 graduating class had now reached adulthood.
Nene joked to fans about the cold weather and said that even if they caught a cold she could not come personally to nurse them.
The message was characteristically playful but also reinforced how closely her public identity had become connected with the nursing career she was pursuing.
The post also demonstrated an important pattern that continued through later years: Nene herself did not operate a regular public celebrity social account, but her former classmates occasionally shared messages or publicly documented meetings with her.
In October 2020, Raura again posted publicly about meeting Nene.

As Sakura Gakuin approached the end of its eleven-year history, the group prepared the 10th Anniversary memorial book Thank you….
The official publication announcement stated that the book would include comments from all graduates.
Nene received an additional individual feature: a newly drawn four-panel "Nene Ningen" comic.
This was a deliberate callback to the character and drawing style associated with her Sakura Gakuin diary entries years earlier.
Her inclusion was especially notable because she was no longer an entertainer. Sakura Gakuin still treated her as an active part of its alumni history rather than as someone erased from the group's narrative after retirement.
Then, on June 5, 2021, Nene herself returned to the official Sakura Gakuin diary.
The post was titled: "To all the Fukei, I have an announcement!"
It was filed under her original Nene Sugisaki diary category — the first new post in that category in approximately seven years.
In the handwritten message, Nene announced that she had achieved the goal she had declared at graduation and had become a nurse after passing the national qualification process.
The announcement carried particular symbolic weight because Sakura Gakuin's central motto had always revolved around moving toward one's dreams.
Nene had publicly named nursing as her dream in 2014 and then spent seven years outside entertainment working toward it.
Her return to the Sakura Gakuin diary allowed fans to see the conclusion of that story directly from her rather than through speculation.
It also provided the strongest evidence for her adult professional status: Nene was no longer merely "studying to become a nurse." By June 2021 she had publicly confirmed becoming a registered nurse.
Her announcement occurred during an especially difficult period for healthcare workers because the COVID-19 pandemic was still affecting Japan's medical system. Sakura Gakuin staff had already acknowledged on her May 2021 birthday that she was living through an extremely busy period and encouraged her to use her natural smile and communication ability to help others.
After Sakura Gakuin formally ended in August 2021, Nene remained outside entertainment but continued appearing indirectly in public posts from friends.
In January 2022, Raura posted that she had gone to see "a nurse in Ibaraki."
The wording and accompanying context clearly referred to Nene.
Raura said they talked about nostalgic memories and current life, that Nene had not changed much from the old days, and that she had once again received a lot of energy from spending time with her.
The post publicly reinforced two facts: Nene was working in the nursing path she had chosen, and her friendship with Raura remained active.
No responsible biography should go further than that.
Neither Nene nor her friends have publicly identified her employer, hospital, department or work schedule, and those details belong to her private life. The fact that she became a registered nurse is public; her workplace is not.
On January 28, 2023, Nene made another notable public appearance through Raura's social media.
The two attended BABYMETAL RETURNS – THE OTHER ONE – at Makuhari Messe.
Raura wrote: "Today I went to BABYMETAL's live show with my best friend Nene Sugisaki."
The wording is important because it confirms that their relationship continued well beyond their Sakura Gakuin years.
The concert itself also created a connection with another member of their original Sakura Gakuin generation: Suzuka Nakamoto, now SU-METAL.
Nene and Raura had both entered Sakura Gakuin with Suzuka in 2010, and thirteen years later they were in the audience watching the international project that had originally begun as Sakura Gakuin's Heavy Music Club.

Airi Matsui, one of Sakura Gakuin's first graduates, made her stage debut in the Japanese production Come Blow Your Horn.
Raura publicly wrote that she attended Airi's opening performance with Nene, Suzuka Nakamoto and members of the hair-and-makeup team from their Sakura Gakuin period.

The second session again included Nene and Mirena with Mori as MC.

This appearance is important because Nene was not merely photographed privately attending a friend's show. She agreed to appear publicly onstage at a ticketed event associated with a former Sakura Gakuin member.
